Essential Software List: My Must-Have Applications After System Reinstallation

Unfortunately, my computer crashed when I was setting up the environment for my NLP lab. I went to the HUAWEI after-sales center to recover my data and reinstall the system. Now, it feels like I have a brand new computer, except for the peeling paint (😁). Here are some of the software applications I installed when I reset my Windows:

  1. Windows To-Do: A very useful application that helps me keep track of my tasks. You can get it from the Windows App Store.
  2. Windows Sticky Notes: A note-taking application where I keep my diary. It's cross-platform.
  3. Windows PowerToys: An excellent toolbox that includes many powerful tools such as FancyZones and PowerToys Run.
  4. Windows OneDrive: Probably my favorite cloud storage service, where I store my papers and books. The cross-platform support is a significant advantage.
  5. Windows Subsystem for Linux: The best secondary system, especially since I can develop in a Linux-based environment, use Linux-specific toolchains and utilities, and run and debug my Linux-based applications all from the comfort of Windows.
  6. Steam: As the name suggests, a wonderful game store.
  7. QQ: A communication application mostly used in China.
  8. WeChat: Another popular communication app in China.
  9. Spotify: A music application.
  10. Visual Studio Code: An editor used for coding. However, I don't write C and C++ code on it because it's difficult to set up the JSON file (😫).
  11. Adobe Acrobat: A PDF viewer that I find better than Foxit.
  12. AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition: The official driver provider for my AMD machine.
  13. Clash for Windows: A VPN software to bypass the Great Firewall.
  14. Huorong: A system defender without ads, though it sometimes doesn't work.
  15. Valorant: A first-person shooting game. I play it with my roommates, and it’s a lot of fun.
